Our Austin Single’s Mingle Success–Modern Dating and New Approaches to Consider
Feb. 10. 2025
The Struggles of Modern Dating & How Our Singles’ Mingles (Will Hopefully) Help Change the Game
Dating in Austin—or anywhere, really—can feel like a never-ending cycle of swiping, ghosting, and lackluster first dates. While the city is filled with incredible people, finding genuine connections in a fast-paced, digital world is harder than ever (and I know, as I have been a single professional in this city for quite some time!) And that’s why my colleague (@walkerTexasRealtor) and I decided to shake things up by hosting Singles’ Mingle event (and he actually met his wife at a Single’ Mingle back in the day–fast forward they have two little ones and are happily married)—an intentional, fun, and pressure-free way to meet like-minded people in real life. Personally, at my core I have always been a bit of a connector–so I like to joke that I can help you find a house or a spouse!
Why Modern Dating Feels So Hard
Dating apps have made meeting people more accessible but not necessarily more meaningful. Many singles express frustration over:
- Endless swiping with no real results
- Superficial conversations that fizzle out
- Flakiness and ghosting
- A lack of clear intentions
In a city like Austin, where there’s always something happening (Ideas HERE) do, it’s ironic that meeting someone special feels so challenging. But that’s where in-person events can make all the difference.
Creating Intentional Dating Opportunities
Our Singles’ Mingle event was designed to make meeting people effortless, fun, and engaging—without the pressure of traditional speed dating or forced interactions. I made a “Bingo” type game for those to walk around and start conversation–not deep conversation, but playful, easy starters!
What made our First Single’s Mingle Successful:
- Curated environments that foster organic conversations (though a tad loud, we hope to host in a less echo-y place next time)
- A relaxed, social setting with icebreakers to get people talking
- A community-focused approach, bringing together high-quality singles who are genuinely open to meeting someone.
- Dating Coach Alex in the corner reviewed profiled and offered a fresh perspective
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive—attendees left feeling energized, having made real connections (romantic or not), and grateful for an experience that doesn’t involve staring at a screen.
As someone who has listened to some podcasts, read some books and really soaked in working on myself as I search for a solid partnership–Here is some of my advice around dating and what has been relatable and helpful for me,
How to Date with More Intention
If you’re tired of the dating game and ready for real connections, here are some ways to shift your approach:
- Get offline – Prioritize meeting people in person through events, hobbies, and mutual connections.
- Know what you want – Dating with clarity and confidence helps attract the right people.
- Be proactive – Don’t wait for the “perfect” opportunity; put yourself out there.
Resources for Smarter, More Intentional Dating
To further support intentional dating, I’m linking some of my favorite dating coaches and books. All offer great tips and insight into building strong relationships:
