Hey there, fellow fall fun-seeker! Whether you’re already kickin’ it in Austin or contemplating a move to this Texas gem, I’ve got your back. It’s fall, y’all (my FAVORITE season) and Austin serves up a whole platter of autumn awesomeness for everyone – from foodies to families. That’s right – there is a TON more to enjoy in the capital city and throughout the Texas Hill Country, far beyond our beloved Austin City Limits (ACL) Festival, (although the two-week festival is another personal favorite of mine) so, let’s dive into it!
Outdoor Bliss
The summer heat is history, and fall is prime time for outdoor escapades. Get active and hike the scenic Barton Creek Greenbelt, kayak on Lady Bird Lake, have a picnic at Zilker Park, or you can relax and finally enjoy your favorite patio spots sans scorching temperatures. It’s like Mother Nature herself is throwing a welcome party!
A few of my favorite patios to enjoy on a perfect Austin weather day are Olive & June over in Bryker Woods, Aba on South Congress (I know, I know, I recommend this iconic patio A LOT and for good reason), Kalimotxo downtown, and Perla’s Seafood and Oyster Bar on South Congress, in Bouldin Creek.
Austin Food and Wine Festival – A Feast for Foodies and Friends
Picture this: You, a glass of wine, and Austin’s top chefs dishing up delectable delights. It’s the annual Austin Food and Wine Festival, and it’s happening on November 4-5 at Auditorium Shores. Get ready for culinary wizardry, wine tastings, and foodie fellowship that will make your taste buds sing.
Texas-Sized Football Fun
What’s fall without some pigskin action? Cheer for the University of Texas Longhorns at their football games and take in one of their iconic tailgate parties. Speaking from personal experience, the atmosphere at the Darrell K Royal Stadium is electrifying. Plus, who can resist Bevo?
Mazes, Pumpkins, and Hayrides, Oh My!
For family-friendly fall adventures, head to local farms. Places like Barton Hill Farms and Sweet Berry Farm have you covered with corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and hayrides. What’s better than getting lost in a maze, finding the perfect pumpkin, and snapping photos for your future Christmas cards?
Spooky Austin – Halloween Delights for All Ages
Austin doesn’t mess around with Halloween. Haunted houses, pumpkin carving contests, and spooky parades – it’s all here. And the Viva La Vida Festival and Parade for Dia de los Muertos celebrations are ones that the whole family can enjoy.
Hill Country Escapes
Escape the city for a day in the Texas Hill Country. The changing leaves and rolling hills make for awesome day trips. Visit wineries (for the grown-ups, of course), explore neighboring (and super charming) towns like Fredericksburg, and just soak up the scenic beauty.
