Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival: Summed Up

Nov. 09. 2011

A long time ago I made a goal about blogging once a week. To be honest, it is kind of impossible. I usually have something going on and think to myself-I will blog about that, but time passes by so fast and before I know it, I feel like my topic becomes old news.

Well, this year I had the pleasure of attending the festival October 22, 2011. It was nice and cool, an excuse to eat AND walk the dog, AND use what I call, my “fancy camera.”

The 2010 Gypsy Picnic was quite popular and I heard in disarray, super crowded and not set up very well, but apparently they learned from their mistakes! I have a few favorites I would like to share!

I really should have taken advantage of the Food Guide given as we walked in, there’s a special spot for taking notes and everything! (fail). In my defense my hands were full with either a camera, a dog leash or food.

While short bus subs was pretty tasty, a fan favorite last year AND my friend’s top pick, I am going to have to go with 86 this, here is the blog on this trailer:  86 This:

I had pulled beef on Tx Toast with Bar-B-Q sauce and mash taters…Mmmm mmmmm it was tasty!

Another thing I loved about the picnic festival were the little rugrats running around. Plenty of stuff for kids to do, for sure. Story time, people watching, dancing, and well…kids don’t need a whole lot to keep one another entertained.

This little guy was in front of us at Mambo Berry, with his painted werewolf face. I said, “Wow, I like your painted face, are you a nice wolf or a scary wolf?” He looked at me and howled, “Ow, Ow, Owwwwwwww!” (Not really sure how you spell that sound, but you get my drift).

Here are some kids dancing around to the horn, just click here!

Auditorium shores has to be one of my favorite places in Austin Despite the dustiness from this year’s lack of rain. It is a dog’s off leash haven, and the picnic was dog friendly too!

Another fav at the Trailer picnic was the crawfish cornbread I had. This was from Ju Ju’s. Now they had something else that had a super long line for (I want to say crawfish tacos or something of the sort), but these were just as fine. Served in a muffin tin, hot and tasty to perfection, here’s what this Gypsy served up for us…

I wanted to try a lot of things, and there was plenty to choose from, but even splitting items with someone I was still pretty full. A popular line was for this place right here, don’t ask me what they are serving exactly, because I am not sure, but whatever it was it is a popular Thai trailer (I want to say Jalopy but don’t quote me on that):

Here is one of my favorite views of the city. Obviously, if you have ever browsed through my Facebook Album, (I heart the ATx) you will see I take photos from this area a lot. Sunset is when it looks best in my opinion.

As terrible as graffiti is, I really appreciate it in Austin at times. How appropriate was this graffiti on the wall on the People’s bridge/trail on S. 1st? Emeril working his magic, “Bam!” Love it.

Anytime I have a few hours free on a Saturday or Sunday, it is always nice to take advantage of 1. The weather not being stifling and 2. FREE TIME!!! So glad I went. I have been attempting to learn Photoshop with what little down time I have, and below is a collage I made of the festival. A bunch of small photos of food and my favorites overlaying on top of the “Gypsy Trailer Picnic” entrance sign. Thanks for reading/looking.   🙂
